The Whole Brain Child Workshop

September 21st and 28th, 8am-12pm each day. 

This workshop is for parents, caregivers, grandparents, teachers, and child-care workers that would like to gain skills to help the children in their lives build better emotional regulation skills, increase positive communication, healthy attachment, and relationship skills. The curriculum covers parenting techniques based upon the book, The Whole Brain Child by Dr. Daniel Siegel.  Children are encouraged to attend. Open Streets ICT! September 22, 12 PM to 5 PM. East Heights will have a booth located in the College Hill Activity Hub near Clifton Square. We will offer free water and popcorn and give away prizes and information about East Heights. We will also have 9 Square in the Air for all to play. Habitat for Humanity Work Day

A team of 15 people from East Heights will work alongside a mother of four on Saturday, Oct. 5, as she builds a Wichita Habitat for Humanity home for her family. Our church has a long tradition of being in ministry with Wichita Habitat so we’re excited for this day of mission! Wichita Habitat has partnered with more than 200 families in our community, helping them build safe, affordable homes. Anyone 16 or older is welcome to volunteer. No experience or tools needed – Habitat provides both. Please register online:

· Visit the Wichita Habitat for Humanity event registration page: http://cerv.is/m?0122rehumc this link will display all events, but only allow sign-up for the Oct. 5 event specifically reserved for East Heights UMC.

· Select the Oct. 5 day reserved for EHUMC and follow the on screen instructions to register. If this is your first time volunteering you will be prompted to create a Volunteer Profile and to read and accept the electronic waiver.

· Once you have successfully signed into the system, or created a profile, you can select your day of service to complete the registration and receive a confirmation e-mail. Occasionally, when you log in after creating a profile it will ask you for a reservation code, in this case it is: ehumc

Take Charge of ADHD: A One-Day Workshop

*Use rewards and incentives effectively?

Sign up to attend the Taking Charge of ADHD Workshop, a one-day workshop featuring summaries of the book’s content with exercises illustrating key points from the books, reflection activities regarding your family’s experiences with ADHD, and interactive exercises regarding self-regulation and mindfulness throughout the course.

Parents are encouraged to attend with at least one other adult from your family, such as a co-parent, grandparent, or extended family member.

The workshop will be hosted by Student Therapists enrolled in the Friends University Master of Science in Family Therapy Graduate Program.

Registration is FREE but does not include a copy of the book. Participants are encouraged to purchase and bring their own copies of the book to the workshop.

A Thrive Community Home Items Sale

A Thrive Community is a non-profit organization hosted by EHUMC that provides weekly meals, childcare, education programs and life planning exercises aimed at moving low income Wichita families from poverty level income to middle class income levels. The group will host a fundraising sale of home items on Saturday, August 24 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at the home of the organization’s Program Director, Patricia Hileman, located at 139 S. Fountain, Wichita, 67218. The sale will feature items donated by Traditions Home store and barbeque food items including pulled pork, ribs, baked beans, etc. for consumption on site or to carry out. Please plan to stop by in support of this community outreach ministry.
