Grab a Bag, Donate a Meal

Please pick up a grocery sack from around the church and fill with food for a meal during the Thanksgiving holiday. The food will be given to United Methodist Open Door to distribute and to our Jefferson and Thrive families.

Here’s what should be included in each sack:

• 6 cans of vegetables and/or fruits (put cans in the bag first to form a base)

• 1 box of stuffing mix

• 1 box of instant potatoes

• 2 boxes of macaroni and cheese

• 2 cans of meat or fish

• One of the following: Jell-O, pudding, canned soup or ramen noodles

• Dessert: Ready Crust-type pie shell and pie filling or cake mix and frosting.

We will be collecting the bags until November 17th. Please place your donations in the Dining Room or up along the wall outside of Hedrick Hall, and we will later get them to the trailer. Thank you for your generosity ❤️

Turkey Dinner (benefits Youth Ministries)

East Heights youth will serve the Turkey Dinner on Nov. 24 beginning at 12:15 p.m. in Hedrick Hall. The menu includes all the traditional favorites: turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, dinner rolls, cranberry sauce and pie. All proceeds benefit Youth Ministries and Missions. Suggested donations are $10 for an adult meal and $5 for each child younger than 10.

Clothes Collection for the Klothes Kloset

UMW will be collecting gently used clothing and shoes for the Klothes Kloset on Sunday, November 10. At this time, the primary need is for fall and winter clothing. The Klothes Kloset is a division of UM Open Door that provides free clothing for infants, children and adults. A car with an open trunk will be in the southeast section of the church parking lot 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. to collect your bags of items. Receipts will be available.

Our boy scout Troop 506 will be selling Boar’s Head Sweet Slice Ham and Brown Sugar & Spice Ham Glaze Gift Box for $40 to raise money to cover camping costs associated with their trip to the Northern Tier and other summer camps. Northern Tier is a national Scout high adventure camp featuring canoeing and hiking in the lake area of Northern Minnesota. The Troop will be taking orders and payment in the Coffee Shop from 8:30 – ll:15 a.m. on the following dates; 11/6 and 11/10. Each ham will weigh between 4.5 – 5 pounds. The hams will be delivered to EHUMC on Sunday, 11/24 from 8:30-12:15pm.Any questions, please call Sueanna Budde at 305-5434 or Chip Budde at 305-3059.

Habitat for Humanity Work Day

A team of 15 people from East Heights will work alongside a mother of four on Saturday, Oct. 5, as she builds a Wichita Habitat for Humanity home for her family. Our church has a long tradition of being in ministry with Wichita Habitat so we’re excited for this day of mission! Wichita Habitat has partnered with more than 200 families in our community, helping them build safe, affordable homes. Anyone 16 or older is welcome to volunteer. No experience or tools needed – Habitat provides both. Please register online:

· Select the Oct. 5 day reserved for EHUMC and follow the on screen instructions to register. If this is your first time volunteering you will be prompted to create a Volunteer Profile and to read and accept the electronic waiver.

· Once you have successfully signed into the system, or created a profile, you can select your day of service to complete the registration and receive a confirmation e-mail. Occasionally, when you log in after creating a profile it will ask you for a reservation code, in this case it is: ehumc

The curriculum covers parenting techniques based upon the book, The Whole Brain Child by Dr. Daniel Siegel.  Children are encouraged to attend. Take Charge of ADHD: A One-Day Workshop

Sign up to attend the Taking Charge of ADHD Workshop, a one-day workshop featuring summaries of the book’s content with exercises illustrating key points from the books, reflection activities regarding your family’s experiences with ADHD, and interactive exercises regarding self-regulation and mindfulness throughout the course.

Parents are encouraged to attend with at least one other adult from your family, such as a co-parent, grandparent, or extended family member.

The workshop will be hosted by Student Therapists enrolled in the Friends University Master of Science in Family Therapy Graduate Program.

Registration is FREE but does not include a copy of the book. Participants are encouraged to purchase and bring their own copies of the book to the workshop.

A Thrive Community Home Items Sale

A Thrive Community is a non-profit organization hosted by EHUMC that provides weekly meals, childcare, education programs and life planning exercises aimed at moving low income Wichita families from poverty level income to middle class income levels. The group will host a fundraising sale of home items on Saturday, August 24 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at the home of the organization’s Program Director, Patricia Hileman, located at 139 S. Fountain, Wichita, 67218. The sale will feature items donated by Traditions Home store and barbeque food items including pulled pork, ribs, baked beans, etc. for consumption on site or to carry out. Please plan to stop by in support of this community outreach ministry.
